Staircase to the Moon – the naturally occurring phenomena can be seen three nights of the month from March to November.

Dusk passes and in the twilight of the evening, a staircase leading to a full moon appears off the shores of Broome.

Staircase to the Moon, is a natural phenomenon in Broome, which occurs over 3 nights on a full moon between March and November.

How is the effect created?

The staircase is created as the full moon rises from below the horizon, its light reflects on the exposed low-tide mudflats, creating an illusion of a ‘staircase’ to the moon.
