Air New Zealand Is Installing Sleep Pod Bunk Beds

Plane snoozing just got a whole lot easier

‘Skynest’ bunk bed compartments are set to be installed on Air New Zealand From 2024.

Do you find it near impossible to fall asleep on a flight? Well, Air New Zealand may have the solution.

In a world-first, the airline is planning to install sleep pods for travelers flying both economy and premium economy where you can lie completely flat in train compartment-like style. Earning the name ‘Skynest’, the pods will be infused with soothing pink lights and can sleep six (hope you don’t mind sharing) in high-rise bunk beds for a maximum of four hours at a time.

The installment will be combined with some major improvements to the business and economy experience over the next 18 months with the arrival of eight new Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

The dreamy new pods will still be subject to regulatory approval, but if all goes as planned they’ll be hitting the sky from 2024.

Also on the agenda, Air New Zealand will introduce a new Business Premier Luxe suite and a new Business Premier seat, along with new premium economy seats that will allow passengers to recline at leisure without annoying the person behind them. The existing pro-sleep and relaxation Skycouch, which allows passengers to stretch out over three seats, will continue to be offered.

Even beyond its new innovations, Air New Zealand really does mean business when it comes to a good snooze with everything set from lighting levels to teas and balms and belly warming food choices.

Seems Air New Zealand will soon become the comfiest plane in the sky, and we’re here for it.
