The Albert: A Swanky Sydney Stay Fit For A Royal

The Albert: A Swanky Sydney Stay Fit For A Royal

the albert hotel

The Albert in Sydney’s Mosman area is one to treat yourself to.

Ever thought about having a different kind of Sydney stay? Like living your best swanky Sydney life? Far from icons Darling Harbour, Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, head to Mosman in what may feel like a world away from the usual tourist postcodes, you know, like right smack in the middle of all action and attractions. Be far away from it and experience Sydney from a new angle.

Located on the North Shore, The Albert is an offbeat boutique stay a short stroll away from the suburban oasis, Mosman Bay, just 20 minutes from the Sydney CBD. It should be on your radar if you are looking to spoil yourself with your next swish Sydney stay and go all posh.

The Albert

Opening in February this year, The Albert is the latest hotel darling in the famed Mosman area. Beautifully restored in an 1886-built stately home, the unassumingly ritzy hotel is a snippet of yesteryear’s golden age of travelling. Hardly fit for the masses, The Albert is a welcome offering to those looking for a more exclusive type of stay with its 26 elegant rooms equipped with modern amenities, enough to make you mutter “ooh la la” with every head turn.

The rooms

Be prepared to experience both the past and present. Each room bestows its own old luxury charm, boasting high ceilings, art deco lighting and furniture simplistic and sleek in design. Rooms are spacious, with some featuring an outdoor balcony to make the most out of Sydney’s great weather. No need to go downstairs for a holiday tipple as each room boasts a mini-bar and a morning saviour, a Nespresso machine with complimentary local Bay Roastery Coffee.

Beds are plush with each room featuring a bespoke custom mattress (wowee was my first reaction!) with matching custom pillows to ensure you dream the night away. And you will.

If you want to reward yourself with the ultimate luxury getaway, choose to upgrade to a heritage room or modern suite, with both indulgent room categories featuring twin showers and cast iron baths. The bathrooms feature local amenities brand Leif, fused with Australian botanicals to make your bathing experience that extra bit luxe for you to never want to leave the four walls of your new holiday abode.

Breakfast time (and seizing the day)

A perfect way to wake up in the morning and carpe diem for the day is to head downstairs to the outdoor area and treat yourself to breakfast in glamorous surrounds. A mix between Federation meets Hampton in design, the hotel’s outdoor lounge area oozes relaxation with traditional resort comforts. From white couches, large wicker-cane baskets, wooden floor to discreet wall mounted fireplace; the outdoor space is every bit chic in the city.

Enough about the surrounds and more on what is on your plate, breakfast time is a full-on eating affair. Eggs cooked to order (your preferred way too), fruit platters, freshly cut cured meats with breads and spreads galore. You won’t be exploring Sydney on any empty stomach that I can assure you.

And when you are ready to seize the day, head to nearby Balmoral Beach (six minutes by car) and take in Sydney’s unruffled natural side without the crowds. Head to the many boutique stores along famed Military Road to give your wardrobe a royal makeover or get cultured at Harvey Galleries Mosman Art Gallery. Either way, a stay at The Albert allows you to see a different side to Sydney: one that will never be out of vogue.
