For a small town, Broome sure has plenty of Instagram fodder…

Some destinations forge their way to ‘Instagram mecca’ ranking one giant swing at a time. Others, like Broome, were just born that way. It might not have all the Insta-calling cards of destinations like Bali and Dubai, but Broome is an Instagrammers playground in its own right.

Get your cameras and hashtags at the ready, because Broome is bursting with natural beauty and photo opportunities just begging to be uploaded to the ‘gram.

The Camels at Cable Beach

If you’re looking for Broome’s ‘money shot’, this is it.

The camels on Cable Beach are so iconic to Broome that they’re right at the top of every photographer’s ‘must snap’ list when they’re in town. You can catch the camels wandering the beach in the morning, pre-sunset, and sunset, but it’s the latter two walks that most people want to capture. Why? Lighting, of course.

While you’re down there, have some fun experimenting with different angles as the long shadows cast at sunset make for a super cool Insta-shot.

Entrance Beach

While the sunset shot of the Cable Beach camels makes for a stunning shot, it isn’t exactly the most original (one look at #cablebeach will tell you that). If you’re chasing down a more unique sunset shot, do as the locals do and head to Entrance Beach on the peninsula.

It’s a bit of a drive from the town centre, but it’s totally worth it. Come sunset, that giant Broome tide has receded and the unique rock formations are exposed. As the sun sets, you can get some great shots of formations against the golden sky and – BONUS – it’s nowhere near as busy as Cable Beach.

Cygnet Bay

Cygnet Bay isn’t exactly in Broome, but if you’re willing to take a corrugated, unsealed road to the north for 2.5hrs, it’s more than worth it.

Not only does this secluded spot sport the colour combo of your dreams (red and turquoise are a match made in heaven), but Cygnet Bay is full of incredible cultural experiences too. Once you’re done shooting photos of the iridescent bay, find the property’s cultural guide, Bruce, and ask for a tour. He’ll show you his incredibly rare artworks in the pearl gallery, and some very photo-worthy spots around the outback property.

Tip: Make sure you have plenty of storage space on your card/phone before you get up here because you won’t want to stop snapping away!

Roebuck Bay

You’ll spot Roebuck Bay as soon as you start your descent into Broome; there’s no missing the brilliant turquoise waters and bright red beaches of this bay. It’s the very first taste of the Kimberley you’ll get and holy colour contrast – it’s unbelievable!

The bay sits on the opposite side of the peninsula to Cable Beach, with not much else about. But it’s the bay that you’re venturing that way for anyway. And, believe us, you’ll be glad you did!

Somewhere In The Air!

There’s no better way to shoot Broome than from the air. Photography is all about the angles, and the birds-eye-view is an angle that not many people get to see. If you can manage to get yourself onto a charter flight or a helicopter tour, your Instagram followers will thank you.
