On first impressions, it might not seem like there’s a lot to do in the small, beachside community of Eagle Bay. But, you should never judge a book by its cover…
Eagle Bay is a teeny little beachside township in Australia’s South West. It’s the kind of town you’d imagine Byron Bay was, before Byron became, well, Byron. Just outside of Dunsborough, Eagle Bay’s little stretch of beach is known for its luxury holiday homes and brilliant turquoise waters. In not so many words, it’s an idyllic holiday destination.
Though it’s still a small community, there are plenty of things to do on your holiday in and around Eagle Bay. From embracing that beachside life to eating some of the region’s finest food, these are just some of the great things you need to try in the area.
Coffee at Merchant and Maker
Kick start your day in Australia’s South West with a delicious morning cup of Jo from Dunsborough’s Merchant and Maker.
Things are kept as local as possible here. For example, your morning cup is brewed from beans by Margaret River Roasting Co, and the chefs bake their own bread fresh each day.
A caffeine kick isn’t all you’re going leave Merchant and Maker with. There’s a great selection of eats in the cabinet (the chocolate zucchini bread is a stand out), plenty of artisanal products to peruse, and even a local gift store to have a gander at while you wait for your coffee.
This quest for caffeine involves jumping in a car. But there’s no need to pack lunch (only your keep cup!) as the drive from Eagle Bay into Dunsborough town is all of 10 minutes.

Hire a Kombi
You won’t regret booking yourself a chartered drive with Küste Kombis, through the forests and along the beachside roads of the Margaret River. Their fully revamped kombi vans might not be the fastest cars on the road, but Winston, Winnie, and Minty (yes, they have names) are the most Instagrammable.
While the vans might not have all the mod cons of a modern-day charter vehicle, these vans have plenty of charm and will still seat seven passengers and an esky comfortably.
Lunch at Eagle Bay Brewing Co
Visiting the family-run (and family-friendly) Eagle Bay Brewing Co is a non-negotiable when staying in Eagle Bay. Perched on a hill just a short drive from the beach, the brewery not only serves up delicious beer and food, but amazing views too.
Your stop here can be as fleeting or as extended as you like. Pop in and make your way through a quick tasting paddle, or order up big and while the afternoon away on the lawn.
Eagle Bay Brewery Co do a great selection of woodfired pizzas to share, but if you’re going down the sharing route, you have to order the marinated octopus, and a serve of the duck liver pate with Yallingup wood-fired bread too. Of course, this is all best washed down with an ice-cold pint (we’d recommend going for their famed Kolsch), straight from the taps. If beer isn’t your thing, the Eagle Bay vineyard also produces some gorgeous wines for you to sip on instead.
Before making a move, pick up your favourite six-pack to share on the bay. As the owners will attest, ‘beer that’s made in Eagle Bay is best shared on Eagle Bay’.

Hire A Yacht
Live your best life and end the day aboard Sailing Charters WA‘s 41ft yacht, in the pristine waters of Eagle Bay and surrounds. Watch the sun go down as the skipper, Luke, sails you through the crystal clear waters of Meelup, Geographe Bay, and Eagle Bay.

Yarri Restaurant is proof that you don’t have to head out to the wineries to find the kind of high-quality meal that the Margaret River region is known for. Brought to you by ex-Vasse Felix head chef, Aaron Carr, and the team behind Snake + Herring Wines, you know you’re going to be in good hands when you book in for a meal.
Perfectly finessed, the menu is a prime example of ‘modern Australian cuisine’. It boasts some lesser-used proteins like emu and crocodile, but still has all the favourites like quail and local wagyu bresaola. And for the wine buffs – the menu, of course, is Snake + Herring Wines heavy, but they are careful to include a good number of other winemakers in the region.
